Recently my birthday came to pass, and my friends know me rather well. While I didn’t hide the fact that it was my birthday, I made sure not to mention it until they caught me because I’m just me like that. Anyway, they invited me to dinner and this is what I arrived to:
This crowd-funded book about the Dreamcast has a whole chapter dedicated to analysis of Phantasy Star Online, as well as chapters on Skies of Arcadia and Shenmue. The book is available to buy now, with an instant PDF download available for those who cannot wait until September for the hard copy.
This game had some of the best graphics and game mechanics of its time. Now there are only pockets full of gamers who still remember that this little gem exists. Remember playing four player with your friends on split screen? Remember the lady with ridiculous square boobs that you were forced to look at at the bank/item keeping post? Remember the bosses on ultimate? Special Rappies? Phantasy Star Online deserves a medal and all of the pity points. All of them. HAND THEM OVER.
*While there’s a story behind every picture in my opinion, sometimes there are things that stand alone on their own that I just have to share…
I got a few screenshots of Farrah using the Photon Arts Speed Rain and Trick Rave that I thought I should share. Speed Rain is a short burst of consecutive slashes that emit a wave; it’s really useful for hitting multiple enemies that are directly in front of you. Trick Rave only hits almost adjacent enemies, but you toss your partisan in the air and spin it so it hits whatever is in front of you, then you hop up and smash it into the ground beneath.
